Why not save yourself the time and energy from running between dentists’ offices and have your whole family treated in one friendly and easy to get to practice in San Francisco, CA? Spruce Dental is not just a dental practice that has been taking care of patients from San Francisco, the Bay Area, and surrounding areas for over 25 years; it is a family. Each of our patients is thought of as an extension of our family and treated with compassion and genuine care.

We like to work together with parents, children, and even grandparents to set great examples for each other and encourage healthy smiles. It’s never too early to start setting the groundwork for good oral hygiene habits!

    The Dental Examination

Regular dental examinations at least twice a year are recommended by the American Dental Association for children and adults of all ages. During your examination, the dentist will check each tooth and the surrounding tissues including your gums, tongue, and cheeks. By doing this, the dentist will inspect every tooth for cavities, assess plaque levels to determine if gum disease is present, and look for any damage such as broken teeth. Also, our dentist will provide oral cancer examinations as well as examine your temporomandibular joint, or TMJ. Looking at your tissues and teeth will allow our team to write up a personalized treatment plan for each individual patient.

To ensure your teeth and supporting structures are healthy, our staff may take a complete set of oral X-rays during your initial visit. This allows us to diagnose cavities, identify any pre-existing bone loss, and check for any abnormal lesions. Radiographs are not mandatory, but are highly recommended once a year and before certain dental procedures.

Our plan of action will be thoroughly explained to you so a clear understanding is reached before any dental work is started. It is important to us that our patients know what the finish line looks like and what we can do to get there.

  • Dental Cleaning

After the examination is complete, one of our dental professionals will perform a complete dental cleaning. Professional cleanings are encouraged to prevent or slow the process of gingivitis (gum disease), dental decay, and periodontitis (bone loss).

While dental decay and periodontitis are the top causes of tooth loss, it is important to remember that proper oral hygiene must be kept up at home on a daily basis. This includes brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding certain foods and drinks that may be harmful to your teeth. During your visit we will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding your personal oral hygiene and how to best care for your teeth.
